“Preciso”: Visiorobotics’ Multi-Bonding Photonic Platform

The innovative active alignment photonics platform will debut at ECOC Málaga 2026

The international showcase of ECOC, scheduled in Málaga in the last third of September, will host the debut of “Preciso”: the new modular active alignment and photonic assembly platform developed by Visiorobotics, capable of offering multiple bonding solutions within a single architecture. “Highly innovative,” explains Sales Manager Paolo Massimi “Preciso builds on Visiorobotics’ expertise in advanced vision and active alignment & pigtailing for photonics, and takes shape as a technology capable of offering three distinct bonding solutions, each designed to meet specific production requirements while delivering the same submicron precision, flexibility, and reliability.”

Visiorobotics, as is well known, has its roots in its parent company Electron Mec which, backed by more than twenty years of innovation and know-how in advanced vision systems, is a recognized leader in the distribution and servicing of microelectronics equipment. This technical heritage has progressively specialized in active alignment and pigtailing for the photonics market, bringing the most specialized expertise to the creation of Preciso. The bonding technologies supporting integration into the platform are provided by Visiorobotics’ most qualified partners.

“Preciso-B Epoxy Bonding” is the standard system, equipped for the use of thermal and UV epoxy resins for active alignment & pigtailing: it features a granite base with active vibration isolation, a six-axis alignment robot with submicron accuracy, custom grippers, a central positioning stage, a gantry system, integrated vision, and a proprietary control software suite.

“Preciso-W Laser Welding”, in turn, retains the same core technologies and flexibility of the previous version while adding laser welding: it integrates a femtosecond laser and the complete optical system for free-space beam delivery onto the selected area, with a galvanometric head covering the required pattern.

“Preciso-S Laser Soldering” finally enables, on a similar layout, the application of solder balls onto points or areas of interest after active alignment, or the soldering of metallized fibers onto the package for applications requiring hermetic sealing.

The platform is the cornerstone technology of the backend assembly capability through which Visiorobotics delivers its R&D to Production service for the photonics segment: a “toolbox” that allows customers to design and manufacture customized, modular photonic solutions capable of evolving over time. The backend prototyping pilot line available at the Milan facility develops advanced assembly solutions in a controlled cleanroom environment, ensuring contamination control, precision, and repeatability at every stage of the production process. On the photonics design front, the partnership with Axinora enables the company to operate as a design house, optimizing components and ensuring compatibility and ease of integration and packaging on semiconductor technology platforms.

“At Visiorobotics, customers gain access to photonic device and packaging design as well as process and tool development,” explains Massimi “we support and guide them from early-stage prototyping through technology validation for production volumes. Thanks to our new ISO 6 cleanroom and the expertiseprofessionalism of our engineering technicians, everyone will be able to test the performance of the Preciso platform in an environment suited to photonics applications and, given the high level of needed customization. customization that sets it apart, adapt it to their own needs. We have already received inquiries from several industry players who,” he concludes, “have expressed enthusiasm not only for our design and process development team, but also for the continuity provided by the dedicated support service that accompanies every installation.”

Photonics professionals and stakeholders are invited to visit the Visiorobotics booth #1235 at ECOC 2026, FYCMA, Málaga, September 21–23.
